Task 1: SIX dance rehearsal logs
EX Wives rehearsals
Task 1: This is our first recording of us rehearsing EX Wives. 07/09/22
In this recording, you can see that this was the first day we had leant the dance as it was still so fresh in our minds. At this point we had only learnt a short section of the choreography. You can see that we are not as sharp on the timing as we were still very new to the choreography and leading the counts as we go. At this point we didn’t know who the queens were going to be so therefore we were placed in the dance in three different areas on the stage and acted out the main words of each queen.
I feel that for a first rehearsal, this is not that bad, considering this was our first actual piece of choreography since before the summer holidays and that this is the first time that we had worked together as an ensemble. For improvement, I feel we need to work on listening to the music so that we can understand exactly when to do each position.
Task 1: This recording EX Wives is our most recent recording. 14/09/22
In this rehearsal we had almost finished the dance which is good as we only have a little section to finish. You can see that we are much more confident with the dance as we are quick on the timing and our movements are sharp and slick. In this rehearsal we had our queens all sorted so therefore our positions have changed as the queens have moved to the front and we had to fill the spaces which are left. I feel the dance as a whole has improved as we have been rehearsing and making sure we are all in time and ready for each move. However, I feel we need work on our posture and characterisation skills in this dance to show the audience that we are 'queens' therefore we need to portray that in our dance. The more we rehearse it, the better it will get. Task 1: This recording is our 3rd rehearsal of 'Get Down'. 29/09/22
In this rehearsal, we learnt the ending of the dance and rehearsed what we had learnt previously.
In this dance we are meant to be sassy and be a boss as that is what Anna of Cleves is all about, she does what she wants, when she wants. From our first rehearsal of this, we have improved a lot and our characterisation is growing the more we rehearse, and you can see that we are actually putting some character into the dance. I feel that I need to work on the timing and movement more as I had only just leant the end section when this was recorded. You can see that some of the moves are a bit out of time or not how it is supposed to be however, I feel the more I practice it and rehearse it the better it will be.
Task 1: This recording is of 'House of Holbein'. 28/09/22
I this rehearsal, we learnt the ending of the dance and went over what we previously learnt and worked on. This dance is probably my favourite dance as it so energetic and crazy and works so well with the music. The thing we need to work on is how sharp our movements are going to be as this dance is so fast and there is a lot of movement going on, it could look messy if it's not clean and all the moves are done when they are supposed to be. I also feel that our characterisation needs to be over the top for this dance (go big or go home) as we want the audience to think that we are crazy.
I think that by making sure our moves our all on time and sharp and our characterisation is through the roof, this dance could look amazing- even better than it does now.
Task 1: This recording is our most recent recording of the finale ‘SIX’. 5/10/22.
In this rehearsal, we went over the whole choreography and polished it by making sure our movements were sharp and on point. We worked on our timing and made sure everything move was on best for example, on the line ‘sick beat’ we had to make sure we were all deep squaring at the same time to make it look good. In this rehearsal we also added characterisation whilst dancing to really show who our characters were and how happy were were that the wives don’t want to be in competition against each other. Something I feel I could work on would be the exaggeration of the movements by making them bigger and being more enthusiastic with them for example when we’re doing the part ‘Tudor von traps’ I need to make them movements bigger and really go for it when making a rock face and position.
Task 1: This is our most recent recording of 'Get Down' 5/10/22.
In this rehearsal, we split up in to 2 groups and half of the ensemble learnt 'Don't lose your head' and the other half (which I was in) went over 'Get Down' and spent a lot of time polishing it by making the moves sharper and slick for the timing. We went over the full choreography of 'Get Down' multiple times to made sure we had it right. In this dance I feel I have gained more confidence performing this dance as I hit the moves at with the correct timing, however, I feel I need to work on the memory of the dance and work on my enthusiasm in this dance as at the moment I'm not as enthusiastic as I can be because I still not 100% sure on the moves as I forget some.
Task 1: This is our first rehearsal of 'All you wanna do' 10/10/22. This choreography is greatly inspired by Bob Fosse and his dancing style. This routine is very jazz inspired. This means that each movement must be exact and correct in order to appear effective. In this dance we use gestures and characteristics from Fosses work for example splayed fingers in the section 'blowing the flute'. I need to ensure that my fingers are stretched to full capacity for that Fosse style. Sexuality and sensuality are a massive part of Fosses work and Jazz and for this dance it needs to be seen throughout. I need to add sensuality through my facial expressions mainly my eyes and how I look at the audience by staring seductively. I can also show sexuality through my movement especially in the section where I touch my body for example in the 'love me, touch me, can't get enough see' section I wrap my arms over my chest them slide them down my body whilst swaying my hips. I didn't learn this dance at the time everyone else was learning as I wasn't present in class at the time so therefore, I need work extra hard to pick up the sections which I am still unsure on and work alot more on my characterisation to really bring the sass.
Task 1: This is our most recent recording of 'All you wanna do' 17/10/22. In this rehearsal we went over the current choreography and made sure that we knew exactly what to do and where. After going over that a few times, we learnt the rest of the choreography and the ending. We worked more on characterization and made sure we really showing our sassy sexy side. However, I feel I need to work on this a little more and make sure that I am giving it my all and being over the top with my facial expressions and when I look at the audience, make sure I am 'REALLY' looking at the audience.
Task 1: This is one of the 4 flash mobs we did to the college in the atrium. 20/10/22
I remember feeling very nervous was this was our first time performing in front of an audience and I was especially nervous as it was a bit of a surprise so, didn’t feel fully ready for it.
However, I feel we all smashed it and even though we were all terribly nervous, we gave it as much as we could. I do feel we could have given a little more but I think we were too scared to do it as it was the first time. I was not apart if this video which is ‘No way’ however, I was apart of ‘Get down’ which I have no recoding of.
Task 1: This was another flash mob which we all did. 10/11/22
This flash mob was for ‘Heart of stone’. I again, feel that we were all very nervous and you can’ t tell this as I’m the video you can see me miss movements and not give my all to the movements which I do. I feel we were a little at ease as we had done this twice before, however it was still very nerve racking. Personally, I feel we all need to work on our confidence when petty and not being afraid to give it our all. I am proud that we all did this and glad as it was a way of us advertising ‘SIX’ and getting more tickets sold for the show, this tells me that the people watching the flash mob really enjoyed it and wanted to see the entire show.
You need to complete this as you haven't discussed any rehearsals showing your progression and improvement of style and skills.
