Future development plan

Task one: Progression One skill I feel I have improved on is my balance when dancing as when beginning the course at Suffolk One during our first dance unit, unit 13 I personally struggled when doing specific dance moves like a simple turn due to the fact I had awful balance. During the first half of this course I was worried that I would not be able to succeed in doing simple tasks like a turn as they were such a struggle.  Over my year and a half at Suffolk One, I have been determined to work in my balance by doing exercises within college and my own time that specifically help with balance, I worked on my core strength (the Martha Graham technique help me with this a lot) and focus to really help myself improve on my balance. By doing theses exercises, they have helped me gain strength within my core and engaged my whole body to develop my balance.  Coordination is another skill I feel I have improved on. At the beginning of the course, I feel I could not grasp the idea of ...

Skills audit  At Suffolk One, we have be lucky enough to study and explore a vast variety of contrasting dance styles. So far at our time at Suffolk One, we have been graded on Contemporary, Jazz and Kathak. Learning these different styles helped me gain an understanding of what dance styles work for me and which ones do not.  Prior to Suffolk One I attended dance lessons which were predominately Hip hop. I was apart of this dance group from the age of 3 up until the age of 10. I feel that due to the fact I have performed in multiple dance shows in the style hip hop, this helped me make my decision between commercial and contemporary as hip hop and commercial are very similar. At the age of 10, I left there to attend PQA which is a preforming arts company that works with the three decalins acting, singing and dancing. We also have lesson about acting for film which I feel is very useful. From being at PQA, I have been lucky enough to get the chance to...

Task Two: Workshop/audition for a dance in a new style- stylistic features

What is my chosen dance style?  After discussing with the group we all came to the conclusion to split into two groups with one performing the style of contemporary and the other performing the style of commercial (which I am doing). The reason for me choosing commercial is that I had done a lot of contemporary dances throughout my whole high school experience and hadn't done many commercial dances. I also chose to perform the commercial style due to fact that commercial is a style which I feel is entertaining, not just to watch but perform as well as you can make it really sassy or keep it more PG like hip-hop . What are the origins of my chosen dance style?  In the 1950's the style of commercial dance was created as a way for dancers to push against the strict constraints of traditional styles for example ballet. Commercial allowed dancers to be free and experiment with moves they have not use before. Commercial mixed all the differen...

Wednesday 4th January In the first half of the lesson we worked on laptops creating a blog about Bollywood which included, what it is, the origins of it and the stylistic featured of Bollywood.  In the second half of the lesson, we started off by watching two Bollywood performances. We then discussed them and sorted their moments out into these four groups movements, spatial patterns, dynamics and relationships.  We were then shown multiple still images which were to give us inspiration for our six still images which we created in groups.  This was our first still image which we created. We decided to create a still image as a group first so that we could all understand how to create the movements.  We then created another still image, for this one we wanted to try different levels and create shapes with our arms.  After this, we then looked deeper into creating different levels so this this idea we created a diamond shape with all diff...
