Task 1: Performance of SIX the Musical

I believe that throughout SIX, my performance was really engaging and entertaining. In each number, I tried to link my character to the song and the meaning behind the song. I did this by using my expressive skills, from my facial expressions and my body language. I loved being apart of SIX and performing in the number, I feel this was really shown whilst I was performing as I felt I was giving 110% into everything I was doing. I love the way that performing can bring out a completely different person inside of you and make you express yourself in was you could believe.

1.1

During SIX, we had to concentrate on the style of each dance ensuring they were performed correctly. The main style which occurred the most in our dances was Jazz, we also had some contemporary and Hip-hop. I feel I worked well on ensure you could clearly tell what style of dance we were doing by making sure my fingers were splayed and all movements were performed with strength and extension. Another way that I clearly shew the style was by my sensuality in 'All you wanna do' for example I kept smouldering out to the audience to make them feel as though I have a hold on them and I also made sure that my movements were slow and finished the whole move to really emphasise the sensuality. I feel within each number I understood the choreography and realised how to improve myself to make my performance look better and execute the story of each number through the way I performed. I spent time working on my characterisation to convey all the different emotions in each song.

My mum, Auntie, sister in-law and family friends came to the final show on the Friday night and after they had watched it, I made sure I spoke to them about it to see what they thought about it. My mum being the first one to respond, said she 'Absolutely loved it' and though it was better than the time we watched it in west end, she said that it was 'so much more engaging' seeing her daughter (me) in it. I then spoke to my Auntie about it and (again) she loved it, she said it made her 'feel so proud' seeing her niece in one of her favourite shows and considering my auntie has never watched this before, she though that there will be no need to go and see it in West end and she felt like that's where she was when watching it. After speaking to my Auntie, I then spoke to my sister in-law, as she is not a theatre geek like me, I didn't think that she would be crazy about it, however I was completely wrong about what she thought and instead, she said that she 'really enjoyed it' and she was really shocked with everyone's performance and 'how incredible everyone was'. Finally, I spoke to my family friends who were the people to first ever come and watch SIX with me and my mum. They said they were 'mesmerised' with everyone's performance' and that it made them feel like they were back in West End watching it with me and my mum.

I used my dynamics in a variety of ways throughout the performance that they connected all of the movements and communicated the choreographic intent of telling the story in each of the numbers. During 'Ex Wives' I had to ensure I was extending each of my movements, I especially had to extend in the chorus as we open our arm's up one at a time on the line 'welcome to the show'. If I didn't extend this movement would have been as effective or effective at all. I also feel throughout all the numbers I had good rhythm and moved in time with the music, a dance I feel this was really effective in was 'House of Holbein' as the song was really quick, this meant that the movement had to be quick but effective and not just thrown but performed.

1.3

I feel I communicated the meaning behind all of the dances very well. I effectively did this through my facial expression and body language. Every single song sung by the queens had a different emotion to portray for example Catherine of Aragon's song was all about how she felt betrayed by Henry where as Anne Boleyn's song was all about her being smug about how she made Henry change all his rules for her. Then there was Jane Seymour, her song was the about the sadness of her tragic death which meant she couldn't live to see her only child grown up, then there was get down which was a sassy song about how Anna of Cleaves didn't need a man to survive, after that there was Catharine Howards song about how sexy she was and how everybody wanted her and finally Catharine Pars song was about how even though her destiny was written for her, she did not let that define her instead it helped her become who she was. From the little back story behind the queens songs, you can understand that no two of those queens were the same and neither was their songs which meant as the ensemble, we had to use our own expressive skills to help tell the story.

All you wanna do

For this song we all needed to use sensuality to really emphasise how sexy this dance is and how crazy Catherine Howard’s love life is.

 Get down

For ‘Get down’, we all needed to give of boss women energy to the audience and show them that we not sad because we don’t have a husband, instead we own it and love living in our palace in Richmond.

Mega SIX

Personally, I feel the ‘Mega SIX’ was the best number as it was about all the queens finally celebrating each other and bonding over their differences. This was such an uplifting number and made everyone feel appreciated from us to the bands having there solos, this number was all about bringing everyone together and not separating because of differences. I also loved how this number is a mash up of all the queens songs, it gave us that chance of doing the dance one last time which I really love and bringing all the emotions into one song.
